    The growth conditions of Ce-doped Gd2Si2O7 crystals, using the infrared convergent heating floating zone method, were optimized to make the shape of the crystal-melt interface flat or convex. The shape of the crystalmelt interface, meaning the interface between the molten zone and the grown crystal, was evaluated quantitatively using the convexity (h/r) as a parameter. The h/r value was found to be systematically dependent on the crystal diameter, the focus position of the ellipsoidal mirror for infrared convergent heating, and the lamp power used during crystal growth. For an 8.2-mm-diameter crystal grown using conventional conditions, the h/r value was -0.8, which indicates that the crystal-melt interface had a concave shape. The h/r value increased with the position of the ellipsoidal mirror, going from -0.8 for the -8 mm mirror position, to -0.5 for the + 6 mm mirror position. Lastly, when the lamp power increased from 5.8 to 7.0 kW, the h/r value increased from -0.6 to -0.3, which was the maximum value observed, indicating that a flat or convex crystal-melt interface was not obtained.

    The effects of rotation rate, filament size, mirror shape, and crystal diameter on the shape of the silicon molten zones prepared using the infrared convergent-heating floating zone method were examined. The crystal rotation rate did not significantly affect the shape of the feed-melt or crystal-melt interfaces, gap between the crystal and feed, zone length, or lamp power required to form the molten zone. More efficient heating was achieved using lamps with smaller filaments and ellipsoidal mirrors with higher eccentricity. The convexity of both the feed and the crystal sides of the molten zone decreased with increasing crystal diameter. However, the required lamp power, gap, and zone length increased with increasing crystal diameter. The stability of the molten zone seemed to reduce with increasing crystal diameter. The minimum melt width divided by the crystal diameter was found to be a good parameter to describe the stability of the molten zone.

    Ce(O,F)SbS2 single crystals were successfully grown using a CsCl/KCl flux method. All of the obtained crystals have a plate-like shape with a typical size of 1-3 mm in a well-developed plane. The c-axis lattice parameter of Ce(O,F)SbS2 tends to decrease with an increase of the F-content in the crystals. The crystal structure of CeOSbS2 was determined to be monoclinic P2(1)/m with lattice parameters of a = 4.031(6) angstrom, b = 4.034(6) angstrom, c = 13.06(2,) angstrom, beta= 97.461(13)degrees by single tryStal X-ray structural analysis. The bond valence sum estimation and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis showed that the chemical state of Ce was in the mixed valence of Ce3+ and Ce4+. The Ce(O,F)SbS2 was insulating with high electrical resistivity more than similar to 10 k Omega.cm at room temperature and showed a magnetic transition around 6 K. Single crystals of R(O,F)SbS2 (R = La, Pr, Nd) with a similar plate-like shape also could be grown with the same method.

    赤外線集中加熱浮遊帯溶融法によるルチル単結晶の育成に対する回転楕円鏡の集光位置の移動効果を調べた結果を報告する。集光位置が原料と育成結晶の回転中心である従来の配置では原料を大口径化するほど溶融帯の安定保持が困難になった。集光位置を溶融帯表面に近づく方向に2~4mm程度移動させると溶融帯保持が容易になった。しかし、移動させる距離が大きくなるに従って育成開始時の種付けは困難になった。これらをはじめ回転楕円鏡の集光位置の移動効果を報告する。

    IR-FZ法でも大口径化できれば,量産に広く用いられると考え,その技術開発に関する研究を行い,これまでにシリコン結晶径を45mmまで拡大できることを報告してきた。更なる大口径化には,高出力の加熱光源を用いるなど,より効果的な集中加熱が必要なことを踏まえ,本研究では,結晶育成に必要とされるランプ出力に着目し,育成時の結晶回転速度,加熱光源の定格出力,回転楕円鏡の離心率などを変化させた効果について報告する。
