    A PAM4-OCDM system with optical multi-/demultiplexing and electrical pre-/post-processing is proposed for short-reach applications. We experimentally demonstrate, for the first time, a power-efficient 4 OC x 10 GSymbol/s PAM4-OCDM system. The four PSK-OCs are simultaneously generated using a single light source and a passive multiport optical encoder and received by a single optical decoder and cascaded DSP. The effectiveness of the electrical-domain amplitude level pre-tuning and post-equalizer are demonstrated, considering different values of shot and beat noises.

    Time- and frequency-domain sparse-subcarrier IM/DD optical OFDM system is proposed for dispersion-tolerant transmission. We show a BER improvement for four-subcarrier ×10 Gb/s/subcarrier OFDM, using duo-binary coding and MLSE over 100-km transmission without dispersion compensation.

    An intensity-sloped optical code with an optical chip-pulse stream generated by Si-based ODFT suffers from crosstalk and signal-to-noise (SNR) degradation. To mitigate these problems related to code-orthogonality reduction, we propose a simple intensity-discrepancy-compensation scheme that involves adjusting the chip-level intensity in the digital-domain. We numerically show a 0.1 dB SNR improvement for 40 Gb/s quadrature phase-shift keying (QPSK) Fourier-encoded synchronized optical code division multiplexing (FE-SOCDM) signal when multiplexing 1 dB/chip intensity-sloped optical codes. A proof-of-principle experiment achieves a 0.3 dB received power improvement using intensity-discrepancy compensation for two optical code multiplexing signals with 1.5 dB/chip.

    In this paper, for optical sampling based on the generalized sampling theorem, non-uniformly spaced, low time-jitter, quasi-Fourier transform optical short pulse generation from a gain switching laser diode (GS-LD) is investigated. Proof- in-principle experiments showed that precise control of carrier density in a GS-LD, namely the use of precisely tailored driving current, made generation of non-uniformly spaced optical pulses possible. Further precise tailoring of the driving current enabled the control of the non-uniformly spaced optical short pulses, i.e. the number of successive pulses in a pulse group, pulse interval in a pulse group, and the pulse group period. Amplitude enhancement, RMS time-jitter reduction, and pulse shortening by introducing self-seeding, optical band-pass filtering, and dispersion compensation are also reported. As a result, non-uniformly spaced optical short pulse generation including twin/triple pulses with 25 ps of the full-width half the maximum, 2.5 ps RMS time-jitter, and 500 ps pulse interval has been experimentally demonstrated.

    A digital multiband DP-M-QAM transmission with a polarization-domain dual phase-conjugated code
    has been demonstrated for simultaneously mitigating fiber nonlinear effects on straight forward SMF transmission
    when the PDL is occurred in the optical transmitter. However, the linear and nonlinear crosstalk are occurred in
    the multiband DP-16QAM signal that satisfy the Nyquist criterion subband spacing, so it deteriorates more than
    single carrier transmission. We observed that the crosstalk is not affected by setting the ratio of subband spacing
    and subband bandwidth to 1.02 or more when a roll-off of the Nyquist filter is set to 0.01. The Q-factors of
    10000 km 4SB-DP-4QAM and 2400 km 4SB-DP-16QAM transmission using dual-phase-conjugated code show
    0.9 dB and 0.3 dB improvement. While the optimum fiber input power varies between two polarizations in the
    case of single-band and multiband transmission without dual phase-conjugated code, the phase-conjugate code
    can equalize the optimum fiber input power between two polarizations for all subbands.

    100 Gb/s multiband DP-QPSK signal with a dual phase-conjugated coding has been demonstrated for
    simultaneously mitigating PDL and nonlinear distortion on straight forward 6400 km SMF transmission with 7 dB worst case
    PDL. We show Q-factor improvement of 0.9 dB by balancing the optimum fiber launched power between polarization for all

    Autoencoder (AE) was applied to the exploration
    of sub-optimal constellation maps and decision boundaries in a
    coherent optical fiber communication link. Single-wavelength
    point-to-point single-mode fiber coherent optical
    communication link that considers wavelength dispersion and
    self-phase modulation was incorporated in the middle of AE
    and sub-optimal constellation maps / decision boundaries were
    automatically acquired by learning AE under various
    conditions. The transmitting side of AE automatically
    configured an encoder, so called AE modulation (AEM), from
    one-hot-vectors to IQ constellations considering noise,
    wavelength dispersion, and self-phase modulation (SPM) given
    during transmission, and the receiving side automatically
    configured a decoder having linear decision boundaries from
    the received IQ constellations to one-hot vectors. Setting an
    appropriate signal-to-noise power ratio (SNR) during AE
    learning resulted in constellations and decision boundaries
    stable for wide range of operating SNR. The obtained BER
    characteristic for 16AEM was approaching to the one of the
    compensated 16 quadrature amplitude modulation (16QAM).

International Exchange and International Contribution

    中華人民共和国・杭州電子科技大学を訪問し、山梨大学大学院医工農総合教育部修士課程工学専攻電気電子工学コースと杭州電子科技大学電子情報学院とのデュアルでグリープログラム開校式に参加した。その後、電子情報学院の遠隔実験室や計算機学院のBMI(Brain Machine Interface)研究室を視察し、先端的な研究の説明を受けるとともに関係者の方々と意見交換を行った。

    JSTのSakura Science Programに応募、採択され、2024年1月28日から2月3日の7日間にわたり、バングラデシュ・クルナ大学から学生9名教員1名を受け入れ国際交流活動を実施した。毎日朝9時~19時頃まで7日間常時引率(推定合計時間8h✕7日=56時間)
